About Dr. Rudy Barlaan

Rudy of San Carlos City, Pangasinan, became a Christian in his last year of college. With a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Rudy worked as a design engineer for a year before finding God’s gift of linguistics in his life. He was one of the first Filipinos to finish a language project in the Philippines.

Rudy worked in the Isnag language from 1971 to 1979 co-translating the New Testament with Dick. In 1979 Rudy came to the U.S., where he earned an M.A. and a Ph.D. in Linguistics at the University of Texas at Arlington. Since earning these degrees, he has contributed greatly to the world of linguistics and Bible translation work all over the world through teaching, seminars and consultation work. He is a gifted linguist and has a passion for the Word of God and Bible translation work- providing God’s Word in the heart language!
Rudy’s work is split 50/50 between the Isnag New Testament revision and SIL Philippines branch responsibilities, helping other translators in their work. We are praying the Isnag New Testament revision will be finished in 2006.
